Danny Welbeck will see his Arsenal contract expire at the end of this season, and Everton should move for the attacker during the January transfer window.
What’s the word, then?
According to the London Evening Standard, Arsenal were prepared to listen to offers for Welbeck during the summer, but the forward ultimately remained in the English capital.
Welbeck will see his current deal expire at the end of the season, however, and it seems likely that the England international will move on.
Indeed, Welbeck has only played 21 minutes of Premier League football this season, and is far from first choice when it comes to the plans of Gunners boss Unai Emery.
The former Manchester United youngster is at the stage of his career where he needs regular football, and a move to Everton would surely appeal.
The Toffees would have no problems matching Welbeck’s wage, and it would be a statement of intent if they managed to bring the versatile attacker to Goodison Park.
Why should Everton make a move?
The 27-year-old scored 10 times in all competitions for the Gunners last term, and has now played 200 matches in the Premier League.

It would be fair to say that Welbeck – valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt – has never lived up to the brilliant potential that he showed at Man United, but the forward has still developed into a very good player at this level.
Strong, quick and with a great understanding of Premier League football, the deal is a no-brainer for an Everton team who need players with experience of winning trophies.
The addition of Welbeck would also help misfiring forward Cenk Tosun, who has been criticised by the Everton fans for his disappointing form this season.
Welbeck’s willingness to work and hassle defenders means that he could perform the tasks that do not come naturally to Tosun, and the pair could form a very effective partnership in the final third of the field.
