For the second summer in a row, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has seemingly broken his promise.
The businessman insisted that manager Rafael Benitez would be handed all money generated by the club to spend on transfers, but it appears that has not been the case.
So far in this window, the Magpies have recruited Ki Sung-yeung from Swansea City on a free transfer, Kenedy on loan from Chelsea and Fabian Schar from Deportivo La Coruna.
Numerous names have been linked with moves to St James’ Park, but deals have been few and far between.
Benitez has not hidden his frustration with the board, and things seem to come to a head on Wednesday night following Newcastle’s pre-season defeat to Braga.

While speaking the media after the match, the Spaniard admitted that the club was struggling on and off the pitch.
The Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder posted Benitez’s quotes on social media, tweeting:
The majority of Newcastle fans are standing by the manager, and now Liverpool supporters have piped up.
The Reds’ following remain fond of Benitez due to his six-year spell at the club, in which he guided the team to Champions League and FA Cup glory.
On Twitter, plenty of Liverpool fans gave their backing to Benitez.
